SAN ANTONIO -- This was no ordinary victory for Paul George and the Indiana Pacers. They know how difficult it is to beat the San Antonio Spurs. George scored 28 points and Indiana defeated San Antonio 111-100 on Saturday night, snapping an 11-game skid against the Spurs. "It means a lot," George said. "We havent won here since 2002. So it definitely means that were onto something. Something great is going on in here, if we just continue to keep on this path, we have a positive future." David West had 20 points and Lance Stephenson scored 15 for the Pacers, who enjoyed a 41-34 rebounding edge. Roy Hibbert and Luis Scola each had 12 points and 10 boards. "I couldnt be happier with how they played, particularly in the second and third quarter," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "Second quarter, getting back in the game, but in the third quarter, really busting it open. Tough to pick a star in the game with as many contributions as we got. Just great balance and a great team win." Kawhi Leonard scored 18 points for San Antonio, which has dropped three of five. Manu Ginobili added 16 points, Tony Parker had 13 and Tim Duncan finished with 10. Indiana had lost 12 straight in San Antonio and appeared headed for a bakers dozen early on. Ginobilis 3-pointer with 9:46 remaining in the first half gave the Spurs a 35-22 lead. It was their largest lead, but also the start of the teams fall as the Pacers starting five overwhelmed their counterparts. "We give a lot of credit to Indiana," Parker said. "They just played better than us." Indiana closed the first half on a 30-18 run and opened the second half with a 12-2 spree. "We had a good first quarter," Duncan said. "Second quarter they started making some shots and we werent able to keep up. We went cold, they heated up and got a little lead there. We just couldnt recover." George had nine points in the third quarter, and the teams starters had all but two of Indianas points in a 35-17 period. "We knew it was a long game," George said. "This is one team that never thinks were out of a game, no matter what the circumstances are. But we knew that we had to get stops and we had to match their energy." San Antonio held a 23-8 edge in second-chance points and a 34-26 advantage in points in the paint, but Indiana attempted 22 more free throws. The Pacers went 26 for 28 at the line, compared to 5 for 6 for the Spurs. "If you lose, you were less aggressive, and you didnt have the effort; thats all baloney," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "Thats psycho-babble. Huskins and Oshie helped the Blues pounce a night after they won at home against Carolina in overtime. The Blues didnt arrive in their Philadelphia hotel until after 3 a.m. and skipped the morning skate. "St. Louis didnt appear to be tired," Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. Not at all. The Blues had the fresh legs and outhustled the Flyers to loose pucks. St. Louis even got a rare power-power play goal as one of the worst special teams units in the NHL finally came through when Matt DAgostini scored late in the third to thwart a late Flyers scare. He showed a sign of snapping out of the funk when he snapped a wrister from the circle high over Elliotts glove 56 seconds into the second to make it 2-1. All that momentum against Elliott, back in net a night after holding off the Hurricanes, was short lived. They could never sustain any more serious attacks against Elliott. The Flyers caught a break late in the third when a replay review showed Carles puck crossed the line before it was swiped away by a St. Louis defenceman to make it 3-2. The crowd roared when the review went in Philadelphias favour and momentum could have shifted on home ice. But the energy was sucked out of the building when DAgostini backhanded the pivotal power-play goal just over a minute later for a 4-2 lead. The Blues had been an NHL-worst 1 for 25 on the power play entering the game. DAgostini, who scored the winning goal a night earlier, made the Flyers pay with Scott Hartnell in the box for crosschecking. The Blues were the team with more jump all game. Late in the second period, Colaiacovo knocked in a loose puck late off a rebound for a 3-1 lead. Like Oshie, it was his first goal of the season. Colaiacovo played for the second straight night after missing five games with an upper-body injury suffered in the season opener. The Blues could have another player on the injury list after forward David Backes left in the second period with an upper-body injury. He was plowed on a clean hit by Flyers defenceman Chris Pronger and was down on the ice for a bit before skating off on his own power. Elliott got two straight starts after Jaroslav Halak was pulled in a 5-0 loss to Los Angeles. Elliott has convincingly made his case for increased playing time.
